The Patio

On Monday, the contractor came to get started on our patio. It's a pretty exciting process.

Here are pictures that will chronicle the work so far.

The load of stones brought in for fill.

Starting the concrete mess...they took out our sidewalk and slab on the side of the house, but I think this is the mess that was left over from the former concrete patio taken out before we moved in.

This was shortly before the accident. The guy driving the dozer ran into the side of the house just left of the sliding door and cracked a whole section of bricks. Thankfully we had some sitting around and will be able to match them exactly. That guy no longer works for our contractor!

This is where the sidewalk connects to the driveway.

The truck finally arrived. The original pour time was to be at 9 am, but there were issues with the truck from the original company, so a second company had to come to the rescue. This was the first of 2 trucks. We were short by 1/2 yard.

The first spot poured.

Beginning to smooth/level the concrete

Working hard

This shows how they did the rounding around the septic lid.

The rounding of the corners.

Getting some help from Katy

Getting some help from Lilly (they look pretty official)

The famous hand print

Katy's hand print (it actually took us about 10 -12 tries to get things in the right location since the first location wasn't staying properly - we moved to a second location, and finally got the prints in.

Mommy, I put my hand in it!

This was one of the tries that got scrapped, but the one I got a picture of.

A shot of Ron power washing the patio to expose the aggregate. (aggregate is the colored stones in the concrete)

This is the beginning shot of the aggregate.

There will be more pictures to come, but this is what I have for now! One last note...if you look at the patio just right, it looks like a grand piano.
