I was in the process of putting the girls to bed tonight when it all happened.
I looked out (Phil was gone) and saw a guy "hugging" our play set with a gun in hand. Lilly had left the bedroom to get a drink (I was in the bedroom) and came back practically crawling down the hall "Mommy, (very shaky voice and white face)I didn't get my drink. There's someone with a gun in our yard."I had already seen it and ordered the girls immediately to the bed. My neighbor was out there (he's a big, burly man who could be a bouncer at a bar), so I figured it was somewhat safe to carefully walk out. I had my cell in hand and told the girls not to get up or leave the house.
The man with the big gun turned out to be animal control. They were after a dog that had been on our property a few hours earlier. They had been chasing it all day. They tranquilized it about 1/2 a mile down the road at Lowes, and it still took off running. When he was in our yard, he hit the dog 3 times with the tranq bullets. The dog got up and ran off into the field. He eventually sat down for 5 minutes, took off running again, and sat for about 10, which allowed the guys to come close to surrounding him before he escaped again. I don't know if they got him, but my heart sure sped up! This is the second time in 2 months. The other time, Lilly was standing in the dinning room window and hollered out at a man with a gun in our yard. All Phil saw was legs and a gun, and told Lilly to get down and not ever yell at anyone with a gun. It turned out to be our neighbor trying to kill a sick opossum, but it still freaked Phil out!
I made a comment to that neighbor that I thought this was a safe neighborhood, but now it might be time to move. He said, "It was fine and calm until you guys moved in!" It's true...the has been a robbery, and 2 men with guns plus all our construction since then.
The newsbug in me had to go take a drive after they disappeared over the tracks. I had to know if they got the dog, so I put the girls in the van and we headed over to 35th St and went around the action to see what was going on. The dog must be an invincible dog! IT was STILL GOING (Energizer bunny?).
