A Really Crappy Night

Saturday night after my brother and his family left, the girls went in to take their bath. After they got done, they called me in and told me that the tub wasn't draining right. I said, "Don't worry about it, girls. It probably just needs to have the lever adjusted." Then, just after I finished saying that, Katy needed to go to the bathroom, so she lifted the lid to the toilet. That's when we noticed the toilet was about to over flow. I went to the other bathroom to get the plunger, and that's when Phil took over. He plunged, and plunged, and plunged. It only got worse. It started filling up the tub with crap (literally). As he plunged, the crap sprayed on my walls, my freshly mopped floor, the side of the tub, and all over. I left very quickly for Wal-mart to get Drano and a snake. By the time I got to the check out, Phil said to skip the snake because he was calling the plumber. Mr. Roto-Rooter came at about 11 pm (from Kokomo), and snaked, and snaked,...oh, and he had to take the toilet up since he couldn't get to what he needed from the septic lid or by snaking thru the toilet. Then he snaked more.

Katy had been up for 2 nights (almost all night) with a supposed UTI (the dr said it wasn't, but now that she has had antibiotic, she's doing great, and the test came back negative). She had just fallen asleep about 10:45. It was torture to have to have her awakened, but there was no way to sleep with all the noise of the snake. So I snuggled with her under a blanket on the couch hoping this would all end soon. (I had to figure out a way to get her out of her room because the plumber had blocked her in with his shop vac that leaked and spread crap down my hard wood floors in the hallway and left a puddle behind the door). Once I was able to get her out, we snuggled.

I went in to check on Lilly, and she was sleeping right through it. I sent Phil in 45 minutes or so later to check on her, and he scared her. She came out and snuggled too. Finally, Phil came out and took the girls in to lie on the futon. They both fell sound asleep. I think I dozed off on the couch too.

About 1 am, the plumber finally finished. I was scared to know what the cost would be, but it wasn't nearly as bad as Phil or I had guessed. After some suggestions on how to prevent this from happening again...

- Rid-x once a month no matter what
- Use the thinnest toilet paper you can stand to

... He left. That's when the clean up began. Phil headed off to bed so he could at least keep his eyes open at church the next day, and I started cleaning. I took some Basic G (germicidal) and started in. I mopped every area where he (or we) might have walked, and then scrubbed the tub, around the toilet, and then mopped. I thought by 2 am that I had all the mess. When I went in the next morning to get ready for church, I realized I had a lot more to do. I had to spend time on Sunday scrubbing the tub, floor, toilet, and walls to finish the clean up.

Oh what a disgusting mess. I'm glad that is over. Sleep was so wonderful Sunday afternoon, and then Monday morning!
