Can you see the need for a video camera to be running here? I could have made a ton of money!
I was stopped between Lilly (who was still laying on the floor not moving and screaming) and Phil. I have a policy not to move any children when they get hurt until they can tell me what has happened (especially if they look like something could be broken). So, in the great expanse of time (or so it seemed…. like a million years) between when she could tell me what happened and moving to watch Phil writhe in pain, I was freaking out. The way Phil was moving (or rather not moving) and moaning I was afraid he had broken his arm. Lilly finally told us that her sister had pushed her and she had gone overboard over one of their little tykes chairs landing her on her stomach. She had injured her side. I honestly think she was madder than hurt, but…who can tell, right?
Back to Phil…he did not break anything, but rather has a huge floor burn on the inside of his elbow. (Good thing it hasn’t been warm enough to wear short sleeves!) It didn’t take long after finding out that nothing was broken and everyone else was going to be ok, for me to realize how much pain I was really in. I then looked down and wanted to cry (of course I don’t think I was crying just because of the pain…I was MAD.) My new pajamas (the only ones that look nice, new, and fit properly) had 2 holes in the leg and burns around the edges. Phil and I had looked high and low for pajamas that worked. These were part of my Christmas present (and of course they had to be the ones that make me look “hot”).
Throughout the rest of the day, I had to “nurse” my knee. It swelled up to look like I had a very large Easter egg under my pant leg (at least it was appropriately timed, right?). Today is the first day that I haven’t been hobbling. I was very concerned that I had done more than bruise the knee. I feared having surgery again.
It seems that it is getting better, but each day a different dark purple area appears. I have 2 burn/scrape spots, and than the huge bruise.
Lilly is fine except for the fact of the trouble she created. She allowed her little sister to take the blame for this whole episode when in reality 95% of it belonged to her. She has, I hope, seen the consequences over and over as mommy hobbles around, ices her knee, and sheds tears over the pain. She is also working to understand what happens when you cry “wolf” too many times for minor things. We might not come running when she really needs us after this last time!
