Three weeks ago, Katy and I were at Wal-Mart shopping and she asked if we could look at the earrings. I gave in and we looked and I asked a few questions. It was after that trip that she seemed to talk and talk about getting her ears pierce. I finally told her that the conversation was over. I didn't think it was going to happen, and that she needed to not talk about it again. If she talked about it again, she would definitely not have the opportunity to get them pierced if daddy agreed. We had already told her she needed to be much older before she could have them pierced.
After that, she didn't ask again. She just wore her dress-up clip-on earrings around the house all the time. She proved that she could handle it in numerous ways. So...last Thursday before Katy and I went to Lilly's school for a Christmas party, I took Katy to get her ears pierced. She didn't know we were going to do it until we pulled into the parking lot and I asked her, "Katy, you asked for something for Christmas and I wanted to know if you still wanted it..?" She paused for several minutes, and then realized what I was asking. She immediately said that she did. So...we headed for the jewelry counter to pick out her starter earrings.
Here are some pictures that I took of the event:
Here she is sitting patiently on the stool with Ella just before getting her ears pierced.

This was taken before the ears were pierced. She was starting to look very unsure. When I asked just before the gal put the earring in..., "Katy, are you sure you want to do this? You don't have to, but you need to speak now before she starts..." She had a look on her face similar to this one and she paused for a very long time. Since there was only one lady working there, we had to do one earring at a time. Typically with kids they do them both at the same time so they can't back out at just one earring.

Here she is during the first ear piercing. She was very brave.

Can you see her smile fading and her face going deeper into Ella's fur? She never cried (a fact she is quite proud of...I had tears in my eyes when I got mine done several years ago!)

Here is a picture of what her earrings look like. It is a bit hard to tell, but they are a cute pink flower. Katy's first choice was a single diamond like mine, but they were all out of them. I think this is quite cute.

We now have to clean her ears/earrings while in the ears 2 times/day for 6 weeks. She cannot leave them out for any extended amount of time for the first year. We've already had one incident with the earrings. She was napping on Sunday when her earring got caught on her shirt and the ear tore a bit. It hurts and bothers her, but she's quite tough.
