First Day of Kindergarten

Today marks a new season our lives! Katy started Kindergarten.

Doesn't she look so cute? So grown up? Some of you might assume that today was a day that brought mommy many tears, but it was not. Why? Are you that calloused? No. It's because I'm her teacher! Katy is being home schooled this year. It was a bit of a tough decision, but something that both Katy and I wanted. I'm "Mrs. Mom" to her.

There will be no worries of her classmates harming her with chocolate or party catastrophes...at least during school time! This is HUGE for both of us.

Last night she was crying and worried about school. She finally told me that she was afraid it would be really hard. I assured her that we would work through it just like we had during preschool last year. Then, a little while later, she was still crying and I asked her if she was worried she'd have a mean teacher (can you seem the smirk on my face?). She said, "Yes." This made me erupt in laughter. "That's really funny because that's not what you say when you come snuggle me - and wake me - during the middle of the night!" She gave me her "shucks...you out-witted me look" and kept on crying.

Here she is this morning with her new Tinkerbell Bag. (She cried about this last night too because she didn't want Tink after begging for it for weeks. She wanted a pink bag. UGH!! I can't win!)

She looks like such a big girl in this picture!

This sweet schoolgirl doesn't look like she'd ever throw a fit, does she?

She did ask that her best friend come to school with her! I agreed since she is typically really well behaved. (Only once in a while she jumps on the bed, but the rest of the time she's really well behaved.)

Last but not least, (as her mom) I had to make sure I had pictures of all her classmates. It took awhile to get everyone looking at the camera and situated, but here they are...I've got a LARGE class! (Left to Right: Liz, Ella, Joy, Julia -twins, so not sure which is which- Katy, Jenna - the bear, not Jenna the friend, and Rosie.)

I was so excited when school only took about an hour (and that counts the fit thrown in there somewhere!) That's less time than we spent last year on preschool. (I'll even still have time to workout 3 days a week like I like to! YEAH!!)

The report came back that she did enjoy school today and is having fun showing Daddy and Lilly her schoolwork.

(The report is in from mommy too...it was a pretty peaceful day...if you know what I mean!)
