A Day at the Lake Would have been great

I finally dumped pictures onto my computer from the last few days of our vacation. There are some really great shots.

On Friday, June 29th, we were orignially planning to go up to the "Grandma's Lake House" (as the girls call it) for the day and enjoy fun and memories there, but we got a call Thursday night during dance recital that the people who were scheduled to arrive on Saturday, had arrived early, and we would not be able to go. I was devestated. The girls were pretty bummed too, but we quickly made other plans and did enjoy our day very much.

We started the day by stopping by the water falls in Montour Falls. The girls thought it was pretty cool. We even went up on the bridge above the falls so they could see what it looked like. Here are some pictures so you can see it too.

The view from above. It really is beautiful.

Then, after that, we drove past the hospital where the girls were both born. They really wanted to see it. It is on a hill over looking Seneca Lake. Yes, the delivery room looks out on the lake...sorry to say those rooms (2 of them) were both full when I finally went it "FULL" labor with Lilly and I didn't get to enjoy it (what woman has such easy labor she can enjoy the view? Not me!). It's not as if I was doing well enough to be "alert" to look out and say, "Oh, what a beautiful view. I'd love to be down there boating right now!" Lilly was born Oct. 30, and Katy was born Jan 28, so although the fall view was pretty with Lilly, there was snow with Katy.)

After that, we headed toward the lake. It is always exciting to see that first REAL glimpse of the lake. I've been going to Seneca Lake almost every year since before I was born. (Mom was pregnant with me one year when they were there - 3 women all pregnant at one time! It was a run on the bathroom!) This lake (especially the "Lake House" are full of memories for all of us.) We went to the Pier in Watkins Glen. For those of you familiar with the area, you know where Captain Bill's is, so you know where I am talking about. We walked to the end, and walked on the rocks.

This is my favorite picture of the day. The girls walking hand in hand with Grandma and Bumpy. Priceless!

Oh yeah. I can't forget the cool sail boat that we watched for awhile. It is truly beautiful.

Here's another shot of it when the sails are down and it was getting ready to dock.

Then, we decided to take a scenic boat tour which would last about an hour. We decided to go at 1 pm so that we could get lunch first. Thus, we headed over to my favorite fast food place - Arby's, where I (ok, all 3 adults ordered it) ordered my favorite drink - a Jamocha shake, and ate lunch quickly. Then, we returned to the pier to ride the boat.

Here's a shot of the boat (before we got on it) that we rode on.

Katy and my dad (Bumpy - a name she created when she was about 1 and in the hospital with the flu. She couldn't say "Grandpa".) sitting on the boat.

Katy grumpily (is that a word?) allowing me to take a quick picture - the 5th time around!

Watch this progression. It's was pretty funny. I never did get the shot I was trying for with both heads out the window, but it was pretty cute. Their giggles were so much fun.

This is a view of Hector Falls from the water. It is pretty cool, but we really didn't get close enough for a really good picture.

We also went to Lodi Point and swam in the "forbidden" water. There are signs that say not to swim, but everyone does. It was fun. I iced my sore ankle in the water, and it helped some.

We rushed back to Big Flats to eat a quick supper before my Mega PC Party (a single party with multiple hosts - great way to maximize on a small amount of time, work, and money.)
