Katy visits the Allergy Dr

Thank you all for your prayers today. Our visit to the allergy dr went well. Katy did fantastic. Apparently, she is quite opposite from her mommy when it comes to reactions. If there is a reaction to be had from medications, it typically happens to me. She, on the other hand, did not respond to ANY of the 74 allergens introduced to her back (even the chocolate which is HUGE for her). It was determined however that she does have allergies. Her sniffly nose was a big indicator. They put her on a nasal spray and also an antihistamine. We are trying it for 2 weeks and will return to the doctor toward the end of the month.

Generally, when the allergens are introduced on the back, they puff up in little red dots if the person is allergic to it. None of this happened...even after waiting 20 minutes. The nurse wiped the allergens off and thought something might pop up then, but nothing happened. For those of you who have had the tests, you might be a bit jealous (right, Kathi!). She did have slight itching, but did great. We read a story while we waited.

The doctor informed us that the sore throats that she gets quite often could be an early warning sign of asthma. We are to keep a close eye on it. If she mentions a sore throat, we are to use my nebulizer. If that takes care of the sore throat, that will probably lead to a diagnosis of asthma. It's a bit of a scary thought, but one that shouldn't surprise me too much. As an asthmatic and one with allergies too (an a family history of allergies), I knew that I had a chance of passing it on to my children.

Thanks for your continued prayers as we go through the next few weeks.
