Life is like a Beat up Mailbox?

Ever have a day when you felt like this? I have days like this. Days when it seems nothing can go right, and if one more thing happens, I'm going to snap.Thankfully, today was not one of those - at least for me! Our mailbox door looked as though it might snap off this morning.

Phil left around 9 to head off to a doctor's appointment and then on to work. I got a phone call from him (on his cell) within 2 minutes of leaving, telling me, "You'll need to call the Grant County Sheriff to come today." The tone of voice he used made me think he'd been in an accident or something. It was then that he told me that our mailbox and 3 others on the street had been hit with a bat last night. Ours, unfortunately, isn't going to be able to be fixed. Here are a few more shots of it:

I've had the Sheriff here to make a report (and he talked to the 3 others), I have met 1 of the other neighbors that this happened to, and I've spent time online researching prices for new mailboxes. It is insane the prices for a mailbox. I Googled "mailboxes" and found a bunch of sites, but one site listed a nice box for $614! I almost needed to be resuscitated after seeing that! I decided to see what else what out there. Here's an idea of one mailbox we spotted: Although this mailbox is...unique and...shall we say interesting, I'm afraid it might call TOO much attention to our box and cause more problems! We'll aim for a more "normal" one.

I thought maybe this one would deter people from wanting to touch it:
What do you think?
Or maybe this would keep people away better?

I guess I'll keep looking. So far I can't afford the ones I've listed here! I need something sturdy, bat-resistant, and attractive. Guess it might be saver to send Phil to Lowes!

I think you should splurge and get the lady with the mailbox head. :-)

I don't love what happened to your mailbox, but I love your ideas. There are some creative folks out there! Best wishes on getting the new one.

Toevs: That was Phil's first choice! He thought that would be real "Eye popping!" I wasn't quite sure that would be the one that would fit in best in this neighborhood or be best for our reputation with Campus and Church! IT would at least cause a rather large stir and bring a lot more traffic thru the neighborhood!

Jules: It's amazing what you can find. Too bad Lowes doesn't carry some of those! I think the mailbox would actually have been replaced by now! Phil's been to Lowes multiple times and forgotten to bring home a mailbox! It looks so terrible and is rather embarassing, but that's his job...not mine!
